Here are my time proven techniques to level smithing quick.
First, You'll need a few things:
(1) Plenty of time
(2) Plenty of Nature Runes - say 200 to get ya started,
(3) A full pot of fresh brewed coffee, and
(4) An understanding wife who goes to bed early!

Use the highest level pick you can (hopefully Rune). It does make a difference in the time spent chipping away at ores. Rune picks can be bought from Nurmof's mining shop in the dwarven mines for $ 32,000 gp, it is worth every dime! Note: if ya blow up a pick, bring it back to little Nurmy to repair, it will cost ya $ 1,800.00 gp which is cheap!

Start by mining the highest level ore you can, balanced by the one that comes with a reasonable number of strokes. For example, I can mine Adamantite, but it takes me 30 to 50 strikes to get an ore. Forget that, I backed down to Mithril!

Next, carry a lava battlestaff (or fire staff) and hold in your inventory the Nature runes and your pick. When you click on the ores, you'll use the pick automatically.

My favorite (but busy) place is the mining guild in Falador; however, it takes a mining level of 60 to get in. I mined iron ores and coal making steel until I got in. Ok, lets say you're in, what now? Mine the Mithril first, it spawns the slowest and you'll be fighting more people for it anyway. You'll have some great conversations (and arguments) here!

Say you've been lucky and have 4 or5 Mithril ores. Each takes 4 coal to smelt into a bar, so get busy - there are 18 coal spawns down here. once ya get 1 mitril and 4 coal, click on the "superheat item" spell (level 43 magic required) and make a bar. Repeat until you run out of space and dump them in the close East Fally bank.

Once ya get 150 Mith bars or so, tele to varrock and go to the West bank. hold only a hammer and the rest as ores in your inventroy. Walk across the street to the three anvils there and make the highest item you can (in my case, that is Mithril platelegs). Dump the finished product in the bank and return with more full screens of ores until done.

Extra bonus points: if you have a mage level of at least 55, high alch your finished product for cash and magic xp!

For entry level miners: Steel is the best and fastest choice for levelling up to 60. The fastest place to mine iron ore is 3 clicks Northeast of Yanille. There are two areas with four iron spawns, they are all quick, too. Mine the complimenting coal at the coal trucks West of McGruber's Woods. each coal truck will hold 128 coal, once full, run to Seer's zVillage and get the coal from the truck in the shed just NorthWest of the bank. I just run the coal ores and bank it until I get 400 or 500 or get bored. IMPORTANT: when smelting the steel ores, wear the red forging ring, it will help! As before, I recommend using the "Superheat Item" spell to smelt, but if you don't have the Nats to do it, the best bank - to - furnace place is the ghost village in Mort'Tania.... the furnace is right across the street and cuts down on running time. If you haven't done the quest to get into ghost village, the next best place is the Al Kharid bank - to - furnace route.

Good luck with your mining!!!

i love your ideas but would like to add my twist on what you have said if i may Smile

i too will mine the mith (or used to in old days before i found the docks). I mine mith and hit the coal rocks right there next to them while waiting for mith to reappear. Can generally smith 4 bars (usually dont get all 5 mith rocks in guild) before the respawn occurs.

The last time I smithed, the mith legs gave more exp per bar than for mith plate. As such, you should remain on mith legs for eternity (note that this may have been fixed, has been over a year since i smithed for exp). However, you get more gold from alching plates than legs per bars so again, depends on what your after exp or gold.

may have said it before (cant remember), when you go to recharge your glories take along your pick as there are 2 addy and 2 mith rocks across the way from the blue dragon cage (again, getting extra exp while going to do something where you wouldn't normally get any).

keep up the suggestions Smile these are great tips Smile
